Mattoni Pro Terremoto - Il mio personale mattone

Un cumulo di mattoni è simbolo di distruzione, ma un solo mattone esprime volontà di ricostruire e di ricominciare.
In seguito all'onda di terremoti che colpirono duramente l'Emilia nel 2012, nacque l'iniziativa di beneficenza intitolata "Mattoni a Fumetti", di cui il cantautore Francesco Guccini fu il principale testimonial. Importanti firme del fumetto crearono opere d'arte decorando mattoni con il tema di Peppone e Don Camillo, simboli di una terra, della sua cultura popolare, dello spirito con cui affronta l'eterna lotta per la vita.
All'iniziativa partecipano tutti coloro i quali vogliano proporre una personale idea di mattone artistico, anche con tecniche diverse dal disegno, e tutte le opere sono messe in vendita al prezzo fisso di 50 euro.
Col trascorrere degli anni, la raccolta fondi è stata estesa ad altre zone d'Italia martoriate da fenomeni sismici e ho voluto provare anch'io a creare una modesta opera d'arte.

GRAZIE ALL'ACQUIRENTE PER LA PREZIOSA DONAZIONE.

Ho utilizzato lo strumento della stampa 3D per un messaggio di speranza rivolto a chi deve affrontare l'impresa della ricostruzione, in particolare di fronte al desolante scenario delle architetture storiche distrutte.

Riferendomi sempre agli episodi raccontati da Giovanni Guareschi, ho pensato al Duomo di Brescello, la chiesa di Don Camillo. L'onda sismica del 2012 non l'ha distrutto, ma solo danneggiato e mi piace pensare che ciò sia accaduto non grazie a eventi favorevoli, ma quasi come se l'edificio fosse sopravvissuto per orgoglio e ostinazione.

Nella mia opera, il Duomo è stato riprodotto con la stampa 3D e diventa un'icona simbolo di chi non si rassegna alla forza degli eventi naturali e guarda oltre.

Mi vengono in mente quelle chiese meravigliose che non esistono più e ho voluto dimostrare che questa innovativa tecnologia può diventare uno strumento molto efficace per ricreare i dettagli più preziosi degli edifici, lavorando in tempi rapidi e a costi contenuti, soprattutto aiutando a valorizzare gli aspetti antisismici della ricostruzione.

Il mattone è rivestito da una fotografia che riproduce le macerie della distruzione, su cui splende un cielo sereno. La carta è modellata sulle imperfezioni dell'oggetto e i difetti
di finitura aiutano a rendere l'idea di un ambiente duramente colpito dal terremoto. Ma su quello scenario emergono le architetture stampate in 3D, come simbolo di chi non si
arrende e affronta le avversità future con rinnovato ottimismo.

"Dallo sfregio alla stampa" si intitola il mio mattone; non riuscivo a trovare il nome più adatto e ringrazio mia moglie Odetta per il prezioso suggerimento.

My personal artwork for crowdfunding about Italian regions injured by earthquakes.

A heap of bricks means destruction, but only one brick can express the will for rebuilding and starting a new way.
After the earthquakes that hardly stroke against Emilia region in 2012, a charity project was started with the name of  "Bricks painted with comics", and Italian songwriter Francesco Guccini was the main testimonial. Important comic authors created several artworks by depicting the bricks around the subject of Giovanni Guareschi's carachters Peppone and Don Camillo, who symbolize a land and its popular culture, along with the attitude to engage the everlasting fight for life.
The crowdfunding is open also to everyone who wants to bring a personal brick of artistry, also using different tools instead of drawing. All the artworks are sold at fixed price of 50 euros.
Years passed by and this charity project has also the new purpose to help people of other places in Italy that suffer the consequences of further earthquake events.
Now I wanted to create my personal humble brick.
I have worked with 3D printer to give a message of hope for everybody who's going to undertake the rebuilding, especially when starting from the destruction of historical architecture masterpieces.
Always thinking about the tales by Giovanni Guareschi, I was inspired by Brescello cathedral, that is Don Camillo's church. This didn't collapse after 2012 quakes and showed only damages, so I like to think that it was not just due to lucky circumstances, but especially because of inner pride and will to survive.
In my artwork, the cathedral turns into a 3d-printed model and becomes an icon for everyone who doesn't surrender to natural events and looks beyond.
I think about those wonderful churches that don't exist anymore and I'd like to show how this technology can work as a powerful tool to reproduce the most precious features of buildings while saving time and money, especially helping to create enduring works against earthquakes.

The brick is wrapped by a photo that shows the ruins after destruction, with a clear shiny sky above. The paper is modelled on the irregular features of the object, thus the superficial flaws suggest a better idea of a place strongly injured by events. But on this dramatic scenery rises the 3d-printed architecture, as the flag of all who never give up and faces the future with new optimistic attitude.

"From scar to print" is the title of my brick; I couldn't find the right name so I thank my wife Odetta for her precious suggestion.
